Recycling program transition

As of January 1, 2025, Hanover’s recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario.

Be recycle ready

  • Place recyclables beside the road or curb by 6:00 a.m. on your designated collection day.
  • Flatten and bundle all corrugated cardboard to a maximum size of 30” x 30” x 8”. Place it beside your blue box.
  • Rinse all food/beverage containers before placing them in your blue box.
  • Maximum blue box size is 83 litres and shall weigh no more than 23 kg. (50 lbs.)
  • All material must be loose in blue boxes. Do not use plastic bags.

What’s accepted

  • Rinsed cans, bottles, jars, tubs, milk and juice cartons.
  • Box board (i.e. cereal boxes, tissue boxes must be flattened).
  • Newsprint, magazines and office paper.
  • Cardboard must be flattened and securely bundled to a maximum size of 30” x 30” x 8” inside your blue box.
  • Food and liquids
  • Foam cups and containers
  • Loose plastic bags, bagged recyclables, or film
  • Yard waste
  • Clothing, furniture, and carpet
  • Batteries
