As of February 1, 2025, Edwardsburgh Cardinal’s recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Ontario.

Be recycle ready

  • Recycling curbside collection is collected on alternating weeks from Monday to Friday. View the collection schedule to find out your collection date.
  • Separate containers from paper and cardboard. Place containers in your blue box and paper/cardboard in the green box.
  • Give containers a quick rinse to remove any residue before placing them in the blue recycling box (containers).
  • Flatten all boxes before placing them in the green recycling box (paper and cardboard). Large boxes (no larger than 26”X30”) can be flattened and bundled and left beside or under Paper Box.

Recycling collection schedule

  • Monday: Areas north of Glen Smail Road and west of County Road 44, including Spencerville
  • Tuesday: Areas north of Pittston Road and east of County Road 44, including Ventnor and Shanly
  • Wednesday: Areas north of Highway 401, and south of Glen Smail Road and Pittston Road, including Crystal Rock and Brouseville
  • Thursday: Village of Cardinal
  • Friday: Areas south of Highway 401, except for the Village of Cardinal

What’s accepted

  • Glass food and beverage bottles & jars including metal lids (removed)
  • Metal food and beverage cans
  • Milk and frozen food bags (clear), bread bags, paper towel and toilet paper wrap, grocery and bulk food bags (clear) – all must have recycling symbol and contain the number 4
  • Clean empty paint cans – lids must be off
  • Plastic bottles – only items marked on the bottom with a recycling symbol containing the numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 (i.e. soft drink, juice and water, LCBO, household detergents, home cleaning & laundry products, windshield washer, vinegar, shampoo & lotion bottles)
  • Aluminum pie plates and foil, rigid foil containers and trays
  • Margarine and yogurt tubs
  • Newspaper and flyers (glossy or plain)
  • Fine paper (i.e., writing, computer, mail)
  • Boxboard such as cereal, cracker and cookie boxes, detergent/laundry cartons, file folders, shoe and tissue boxes, apple baskets, over-the-counter drug boxes (i.e., toothpaste, toiletries, cough syrups, medicine and cosmetics), paper egg cartons, toilet and paper towel rolls and pizza boxes
  • Magazines, catalogues, telephone directories and greeting cards
  • Clean ice cream containers
  • Frozen juice cans
  • Cardboard and orrugated cardboard – flatten all boxes before placing in the green box. Large boxes (no larger than 26”X30”) can be flattened and bundled and left beside or under Paper Box.
  • Cookie bags or pet food bags
  • Styrofoam
  • Waxed or coated boxes, waxed food boxes and photos
  • Glass, cans or metal containers
  • Foil gift wrap
  • Used tissue or paper towels
  • Motor oil bottles or herbicide/pesticide bottles
  • Light bulbs or ceramic
  • Window glass, dishes, mirrors or clear prescription bottles
  • Chip, fertilizer, salt or cookie bags and straws
